NOTES
WICKED! is about blood, violence, and weapons, about sex and genitals, bowels, bodily fluids, and decay. And yes, it is about design. It volatilely teases with physical and intense attractions and anxieties thrown onto everyday objects. One wonders: Who could I give it to?! From a distance we know how disgusting things can get, and usually we feel superiour to the wicked - or the bad taste. But it is thinkable for the observer to actually be revolting - to use objects and living beings in a way close to destruction, supression and decay. Just thinkable. For a moment. And then flip the page.
The leap it actually takes to realize what destruction and degradation are and how many other forms they take in our everyday lives needs quite a while. Our fascination with them is enjoyable from a distance. But right in the middle of the horror - of the waste of our energies - most of us would simply fold. In a hopeless, immobile situation that confronts us with our own destruction we do not know any answers.

TRANSFORMATION
Reading this book is like learning a 3D language! In over 1300 color pictures and drawings this bookoffers an access to the principles of designing 3D forms and surfaces. The basis of this hugecollection of forms is an analysis and structuring of the various types of forms and their interfaces. These form types with their many variations and possibilities to connect to each other can be beautifully memorized while flipping through the book and used later on in any kind of design process.

Old & New provides a comprehensive overview of intelligent approaches for working with existing building stock. Presented in this volume are everyday projects such as the revitalizing of structures from the 1950s to the 1970s but also more specialized examples. Including essays on technical aspects such as improving energy efficiency and working with contaminated building materials.
32 Examples with colour pictures, technical drawings and project data layed out for comparison makes this book useful in the planning stage of buildings:
ADDITIONS: Extendings, enlargings, supplements, roundings off, enclosings – their aim is to gain more space, upgrade a building to gain more uses or even to enhance the appearance.
TRANSFORMATIONS denote changes in appearance, form or structure. Changes embrace buildings in their entirety, and the clear boundary between old and new ist thereby dissolved. The physical renewal of a built substance is often more subtle, but also more far-reaching than expansions.
CONVERSIONS: Buildings are adapted for a new use, because the old one has become obsolete. The new perspectives are often the prerequisite for the survival of old buildings.

Nano Materials In architecture, nanotechnology has led to the development of functional materials and surfaces that offer vast innovation potential, in particular with regard to greater energy efficiency. Whilst the technology is already available, there is at best only sketchy knowledge of its applications in architectural contexts and related fields, and accordingly a lack of planning skills. The book NANO MATERIALS provides professional users with an overview of functional nanosurfaces of all kinds, enabling them to employ nanomaterials intelligently and appropriately and to provide competent advice for clients.

Wood and Wood Joints In the most typical method of building with wood, elements are connected by using wood joints which do not require the assistance of adhesives or metal connectors. By looking at several hundred examples from Japan, China and 18 European countries, this book describes in great detail the history of timber architecture in terms of its technical, aesthetic and ecological dimensions. This thorough study is a mine of information to specialists in this field; it opens up to the craftsman of today what has become an almost forgotten world and provides a fascinating account for the general reader.
